Good news for anyone missing the Polynesian's breezy outdoor tiki bar: after closing back in April with no reopening date in sight, Trader Sam's Tiki Terrace finally has a timeline. Disney says the open-air lounge will be closed through late October 2026 for refurbishment work tied to the resort's Grand Ceremonial House. It's the first word on timing in three months — with one honest catch worth knowing before you pencil it in.
The catch: it's a timeline, not a firm date
Here's the part the splashier headlines are skipping. "Through late October" is the first estimate Disney has given, but it is not a committed reopening date — and Disney's own website has been shaky on it. The late-October language appeared on the official refurbishment listing, then was quietly removed and replaced with a vaguer "currently closed for refurbishment… please check back for updates." As of now, there's still no official reopening date or operating hours on Disney's calendar.
So the honest read: late October is the target Disney floated, but the fact that they pulled the specific wording suggests they're not ready to lock it in. Treat it as "probably fall, possibly later" rather than a date to build a trip around.
A first timeline after three months of silence is genuinely good news. Just don't book a late-October trip around a Tiki Terrace visit — Disney hasn't committed, and this refurb has already slipped once.
Why it's closed
The Tiki Terrace is the open-air patio attached to Trader Sam's Grog Grotto, and it shares a wall with the Grand Ceremonial House — the Polynesian's main building, which is deep into a big exterior refurbishment. Because the terrace is physically connected to that building, it can't reopen until the surrounding work wraps. The closure originally targeted late June; that came and went, which is how we ended up here.
It's all part of a broader overhaul at the Polynesian this year. The same project includes the reconfiguration of the resort's front entrance roadway — the permanent intersection closure and new bus loop we covered recently. Through late 2026, expect some areas of the resort and the Villas & Bungalows to be under refurbishment, with a few impacted theme-park views. Most dining, pools, and amenities remain open in the meantime.
Where to drink (and DOLE Whip) in the meantime
You're not shut out of Trader Sam's entirely. The indoor Trader Sam's Grog Grotto — the interactive, effects-packed tiki bar next door — is open and operating daily. It's all ages during the day and shifts to 21-and-older after 8 PM, and it's home to the theatrical stuff: the Uh-Oa! that lights on fire, the souvenir mugs, and the Polynesian Pearl. The main thing you lose with the terrace closed is the relaxed outdoor seating, the lagoon views, and the easier walk-up access — the Grog Grotto indoors fills up fast and often hits capacity within an hour of opening.
What to do
If a Polynesian visit is on your radar for fall, plan as though the Tiki Terrace won't be open, and treat it as a bonus if it is. Watch Disney's official refurbishment calendar for a firm reopening date and hours — that's where a real commitment will show up first, not in a floated estimate. We'll update when Disney posts an actual date.
Details accurate as of July 15, 2026. Disney has given a "through late October" timeline but has not posted a confirmed reopening date; timing is subject to change.
