Animal Kingdom: a new check-in point
This is the more concrete change. Previously, Early Entry guests were verified right past the entrance tap-points, while everyone else was held there. Now, all guests are allowed to walk into Discovery Island during Early Entry, and the eligibility scan happens later — somewhere between the entrance and your first attraction, a Cast Member scans one party member's ticket or MagicBand.
Practically: onsite guests are generally funneled left toward Pandora, offsite guests held to the right until closer to official opening. If Flight of Passage is your target, you'll follow the main crowd; if you want Na'vi River Journey, Everest, DINOSAUR, or Zootopia instead, peel off early — those don't draw the Pandora swarm.
Magic Kingdom: the "test" is now the norm
At Magic Kingdom, a procedure that started during spring break as a test has quietly become the standard. Guests are held at the hub bridges and released to proceed to their first destination once things open. When it debuted, Disney framed it as a temporary measure to absorb spring-break crowds — but multiple Cast Members have since confirmed it's the new normal, no longer a test.

The honest caveat: party season may change it again
