Here's why this one's a bigger deal than the usual resort update: Lakeshore Lodge is the first brand-new resort in the Magic Kingdom area since Disney's Wilderness Lodge opened in 1994. That's more than thirty years. It sits on Bay Lake — the former River Country site, and the same spot once planned as Reflections before that project stalled out during the pandemic — tucked between Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge, with a dedicated boat to Magic Kingdom. Booking opens in three staggered waves, all in early October 2026:
- October 6 — Disney Vacation Club members get first crack (early cash bookings via Member Services).
- October 7 — Walt Disney World Annual Passholders.
- October 8 — everyone else, online or by phone.
One important catch: these are all cash reservations at rack rate — and rack rate on a brand-new deluxe resort will not be gentle. DVC members waiting to book with points get a separate date that Disney hasn't announced yet. So if points are your plan, October isn't your month; keep an eye out for the points-chart release instead.
What This Means for Your Trip
The location is the story. Being able to walk between Lakeshore Lodge, Wilderness Lodge, and Fort Wilderness — with a boat straight to Magic Kingdom and some rooms lined up for both Bay Lake sunsets and Magic Kingdom fireworks (the Electrical Water Pageant floats right past) — is the kind of setting that makes a resort a destination in itself, not just a place to sleep. That's the pitch, and it's a strong one.
The room reveals are nice but secondary. Each category leans on a nature-themed Disney film — cozy Duo Studios (Encanto), Deluxe Studios and villas (Bambi), Grand Villas (Fantasia) — but the genuinely new thing here is the waterfront A-frame Lake Houses, standalone cabins right on the water themed to Brother Bear. That's a room type Disney World hasn't offered in this form before, and it's the one worth gawking at.
Our honest take on when to book: opening summer at a new Disney resort means peak rack rates, but also the restaurants and theming at their absolute freshest. If you want the "first-guests" experience and the money works, book early — but go in expecting a premium. If you're flexible, discounts on a new resort always come eventually; they just take a while.
